Altera, based in San Jose, California, seeks a senior robotics architect to lead end-to-end system design across sensors, perception, planning, and control. The role requires deep expertise in robotics and AI/ML, plus extensive experience shaping customer engagements and architecture roadmaps.
Travel up to 30% is expected as part of customer engagements, PoC development, and strategy work, with opportunities to contribute to technical blogs and training materials.
Key Responsibilities
End-to-End Robotics System Architecture. Define full-stack robotics architectures spanning sensors, perception, localization, planning, control and actuation. Design Sense–Think–Act pipelines with strict latency and determinism constraints. Evaluate hardware/software partitioning, especially CPU vs GPU vs FPGA mapping.
Customer Engagement & Solution Delivery: Lead technical engagements with robotics customers. Translate customer requirements into architecture proposals and solution roadmaps and deliver.
Proof-of-Concept (PoC) & Prototyping: Drive PoC development to validate architecture and performance, and work with engineering teams to build demos.
Robotics Strategy & Market Development.
Contribute to white papers, technical blogs, and training materials.
The pay range below is for Bay Area California only. Actual salary may vary based ona number offactors including job location, job-related knowledge, skills, experiences,trainings, etc. We also offer incentive opportunities that reward employees based on individual and company performance.

Required Qualifications
MS/PhD in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
10+ years experience in robotics, AI systems, or solutions architecture
Strong expertise in one or more domains: Robotics systems and AI/ML for robotics
Experience with:
