Job summary

Process Logic in Waite Park, MN, is hiring to own software for mobile robots on roofs. You’ll take a prototype and transform it into a dependable daily-use system for a roofing crew, working with real hardware on job sites.

You’ll lead navigation, localization, and coordination across robots, interface with iPhone apps, and ensure robust, repeatable operation in outdoor environments.

Qualifications

• Must have built software for mobile robots or autonomous vehicles used by real customers.
• Strong ROS 2 experience (Nav2, sensor fusion, behavior trees, lifecycle).
• Proficiency in Python and C++ on Linux; comfortable with embedded compute like NVIDIA Jetson.
• Hands-on GNSS/RTK, lidar, IMUs; practical outdoor localization problems.
• Able to debug a robot in the field and explain decisions to roof crews.
• Collaborative with crew and owner, turning ideas into runnable code quickly.

Responsibilities

• Own the robot software stack end-to-end: navigation, localization, multi-robot coordination, and iPhone interface.
• Ensure centimeter-accurate RTK positioning and robust roof-edge boundaries.
• Develop robot-to-robot coordination, including following, queuing, and handoffs.
• Integrate hardware: GNSS, UWB, IMUs, load cells, controls, and new attachments.
• Promote engineering discipline: one codebase, field-midelity simulation, tests, CI, and OTA updates.
• Spend time on roofs with crews to observe issues and implement fixes.
• Collaborate daily with AI coding tools (Claude Code, ChatGPT) to accelerate delivery.

The job

We're a Minnesota commercial roofing contractor with 150+ employees, and we're putting autonomous robots on our roofs. Today that's a fleet of three wheeled and tracked rovers hauling tear-off debris, running ROS 2, RTK GPS, lidar, and depth cameras, controlled from an iPhone by a roofing crew. Next, it's robots that load themselves from a moving tear-off machine, deliver to a moving person, and report back to the office — and after that, swappable attachments for other rooftop jobs.

You’ll own the software for all of it. You’ll take a working prototype and make it something a crew with no training can depend on every day.

What you'll do

• Own the robot codebase end to end navigation, localization, multi-robot coordination, the iPhone interface, and the systems that keep it all running on the robots
• Make centimeter-accurate RTK positioning, heading, and roof-edge boundaries rock solid
• Build robot-to-robot coordination: following, queuing, handoffs at a moving machine
• Integrate hardware: GNSS, UWB, IMUs, load cells, buttons, status lights, and new attachments
• Bring engineering discipline: one codebase, simulation that matches the field, tests, GitHub pull requests, over-the-air updates
• Spend real time on roofs with crews, watch what breaks, and fix it
• Work with AI coding tools daily; we use Claude Code, ChatGPT and others and expect you to use it to move fast

What you bring

• Years of building software for mobile robots or autonomous vehicles that shipped to real users, not just labs
• Strong ROS 2 experience: Nav2, robot localization or equivalent sensor fusion, behavior trees, launch and lifecycle management
• Python and C++ on Linux; comfortable on embedded compute like NVIDIA Jetson
• Hands-on with GNSS/RTK, lidar, and IMUs, and the practical problems of outdoor localization
• You've debugged a robot in a field with a laptop on your knee and you liked it
• You can explain to a roofer why the robot did what it did

Nice to have

• Multi-robot coordination or formation control
• UWB or other short-range relative positioning
• Gazebo or Isaac Sim, and CI for robotics
• Web front-end work (JavaScript, WebSockets/rosbridge)
• Thermal or ruggedization experience for electronics in harsh environments
• Any construction or heavy-equipment background

Small team, owner-driven, no committees. You'll work directly with the owner on what the robots should do and have full authority over how. Ideas move from conversation to plan to code to roof in weeks. The robots are real, the crews are real, and the results show up as tons hauled per day.
