Job summary

Toyota Material Handling North America is seeking a Research Engineer to explore emerging technologies and build proof-of-concept prototypes for next-generation forklift and material handling solutions.

You will collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and robotics engineers to turn new ideas into practical technologies, enhancing operator effectiveness, productivity, and customer value through rigorous validation and documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in the listed engineering disciplines.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Python, C/C++, Java.
• Familiarity with robotics and simulation tools such as ROS, MATLAB, Simulink, or Gazebo.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, working independently and with others.
• Curiosity, adaptability and a desire to explore technologies.

Responsibilities

• Explore emerging technologies in robotics, automation, perception, AI/ML.
• Design, build, and evaluate proof-of-concept prototypes.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and robotics engineers.
• Design and execute experiments to validate concepts and performance.
• Analyze test data and recommend enhancements.
• Document findings through reports, presentations and engineering docs.
• Support patent development, publications, and future product concepts.
• Identify opportunities to improve safety, productivity and customer value.
