Job summary

Abaka AI in Silicon Valley is seeking a Robotics Research Engineer for Abaka Robotics Lab. You will train policies on simulated and real robots, design data pipelines, and publish results in top venues.

The role blends robot learning, data production, and scalable pipelines, with hands-on work on 6-DoF arms and teleoperation, and opportunities to contribute to published research and open-source projects.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, ML, or related field.
• 1-3 years hands-on with real robot hardware through research or projects.
• Strong ML fundamentals: optimization, generalization, evaluation, end-to-end training.
• Strong robotics fundamentals: coordinate frames, kinematics, basic control.
• Strong 3D vision: camera models, multi-view geometry, point clouds.
• Rigorous evaluation backed by measurements.

Responsibilities

• Scope 1: train and evaluate robot policies in simulation and on real robots.
• Turn evaluation results into data quality signals and insights.
• Reproduce cutting-edge papers and run methods on hardware for publications.
• Maintain training/evaluation infrastructure and simulation environments.
• Scope 2: design pipelines turning raw sensor data into training data with minimal labeling.
• Track data decisions and their impact on policy performance.
