Job summary

Abaka AI in Mountain View is seeking a Robotics Research Engineer to join Abaka Robotics Lab. You will train and evaluate policies on simulated and real robotic systems, design scalable data pipelines, and turn sensor data into high-quality training datasets with minimal human labeling.

You will work with 6-DoF robotic arms and a teleoperation platform, publish findings at robotics and ML venues, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance data foundations for physical AI.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
• 1–3 years of hands-on experience with real robot hardware in research, internship, or project.
• Strong machine learning fundamentals: optimization, generalization, evaluation, end-to-end training.
• Solid robotics fundamentals: coordinate frames, kinematics, basic control.
• Strong 3D vision fundamentals: camera models, multi-view geometry, point clouds.
• Rigorous evaluation: results backed by measurements.

Responsibilities

• Train and evaluate robot policies (imitation learning, diffusion policies, VLA, RL fine-tuning) in simulation and on real robots.
• Turn evaluation results into data quality signals: which data helped and why.
• Reproduce state-of-the-art papers, run methods on hardware, publish findings in top venues.
• Maintain training/evaluation infrastructure and simulation/world-model environments.
