Job summary

Telescent Inc. in Irvine, California is seeking a hands-on engineer to join a small, highly technical team.

You will own real products early in your career, developing Java software on Linux, writing firmware for microcontrollers, and integrating motors, sensors, and optical subsystems in a robotics-focused environment. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Software, Robotics, Systems, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • At least 2 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience programming, ideally with Java.
  • Experience working in Linux environments.
  • Familiarity with microcontrollers, embedded firmware, and electronic circuits.
  • Exposure to motors, sensors, encoders, and motion-control systems.
  • Basic understanding of printed circuit board design and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic test equipment.
  • Familiarity with LabVIEW or comparable automated test platforms.
  • Basic knowledge of optics or fiber optics.
  • Strong system-level troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Practical, hands-on engineering mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and support Java software running in Linux environments.
  • Create firmware for microcontrollers and embedded systems.
  • Integrate and control motors, actuators, encoders, and sensors.
  • Design and refine robotic motion-control systems.
  • Prototype, design, and troubleshoot basic electronic circuits.
  • Support PCB design, bring-up, and testing.
  • Build automated test and diagnostic tools, including LabVIEW-based solutions.
  • Carry out electronic, electromechanical, and optical testing.
  • Integrate software, electronics, mechanics, and fiber-optic subsystems.
  • Diagnose and resolve system-level hardware and software issues.
  • Support new products from prototype through production.
