Job summary

Field AI in Irvine, CA is seeking a Robotics Integration Engineer to bring new robot platforms into our fleet, ensuring they operate at high standards in real world environments. You will integrate control stacks (ROS/ROS2) and payloads, and validate sim-to-real performance on terrain, stairs, and uneven ground.

Qualifications

• Education: B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Robotics, Computer Science, or related field.
• Experience: 3–9 years of experience.
• Software: Hands-on experience with middleware (ROS/ROS2) and computing languages (Python, C++).
• Robotics Software Generalist: broad experience across controls, navigation, and systems integration.
• Sim-to-Real Experience: validating RL/autonomy policies on hardware.
• Cross Functional Hardware Knowledge: motors, actuation, BLDC controllers, power distribution/electrical systems.
• Communication Protocols: CAN bus, EtherCAT or similar.
• Systems Thinking: work across mechanical, electrical, controls, and autonomy domains.

Responsibilities

• Platform Abstraction: build software layers between each robot's control stack and Field AI systems.
• Robot Controls & Navigation: ensure navigation and controls on physical hardware across platforms.
• Electro-Mechanical Integration: design and integrate mechanical/electrical interfaces.
• Sim‑to‑Real: validate RL/autonomy policies from simulation to real hardware.
• Cross-Functional Integration: coordinate across Autonomy/RL, Manipulation, Mechanical, Electrical teams.
• Testing & Validation: SIL/HIL testing for safety and field readiness.
• New Robots: identify, procure, test, and integrate diverse robotic systems.
• Multi‑Platform Support: support legged, humanoid, and wheeled UGVs.
