Job summary

ICON is seeking a Mechatronics Engineer in Austin, TX to join our Robotics team. Work at the intersection of mechanical systems, electronics, and software to design, integrate, and validate electromechanical systems for ICON's large-scale robotics.

You will tune servo drives, write low-level embedded code, and collaborate with mechanical and electrical teams to ensure precise, reliable motion in an EtherCAT-based control architecture.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechatronics, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years in mechatronics or electromechanical systems.
• Hands-on servo drives, encoders, motion hardware in multi-axis contexts.
• Working knowledge of EtherCAT or similar fieldbus (CANopen, Profinet, EtherNet/IP).
• Embedded or real-time C/C++ programming for motion control.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Experience supporting hardware/software integration and testing.

Responsibilities

• Design, integrate, and validate electromechanical systems for large-scale robotics.
• Configure, tune, and commission servo drives, motors, encoders, and motion hardware.
• Develop and maintain low-level embedded software for motion control in C/C++.
• Translate motion requirements into drive configurations and electrical specs.
• Support electrical panel layouts and interface hardware with mechanical teams.
• Develop hardware integration and acceptance test procedures for subsystems.
• Contribute to simulation by providing actuator and drive models.
• Participate in design and code reviews for hardware/software deliverables.
