Job summary

Google DeepMind is seeking a Mechanical Engineer (Mechanisms and Actuation) to build components for advanced robots and contribute to core hardware systems that empower dexterous, general, and useful physical actions.

You will prototype complex mechanisms, validate them on mobile robots, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to advance rapid hardware development and testing across robotics domains.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years in a robotics technical environment, or 1 year with an advanced degree.
• Proven track record working on complex robotics hardware including actuation, high-performance structures, sensing and compute.

Responsibilities

• Utilize advanced modeling, multi-physics simulation, and optimization to design high-performance actuators with optimized torque density and thermal management.
• Develop structural and kinematic systems for mobile robots and rapid prototype development.
• Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings with GD&T per ASME Y14.5 for precision robotics hardware.
• Architect, select, and integrate drivetrain systems; apply expertise in motor architecture, gear design, bearings, and lubrication to optimize torque and efficiency.
• Apply DFMA principles and collaborate with manufacturing partners to select optimal processes.
