Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for tactile sensing and robotic subsystem development in San Francisco. You will lead mechanical design, prototyping, and validation, collaborating with hardware and software teams to deliver robust sensor solutions.

Ideal candidates have strong fundamentals in mechanical design, experience in robotics, and a track record of moving from prototype to manufacturable assemblies. On-site presence four days a week is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in mechanical engineering or related field.
• 5+ years in mechanical design, robotics, or electromechanical systems.
• Experience with CAD tools and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and iteration of mechanical subsystems including tactile sensors, load cells, and encoders.
• Create and maintain CAD models, drawings with tolerancing, and documentation.
• Build, test, and debug prototypes; validate performance and durability.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to integrate hardware with sensors and control systems.
