Job description

Job Title:Robotics Engineer, Hardware Integrations

Job Type: Full-time

Location: On-site / SF

The Role

We’re building the infrastructure that enables intelligent robots to learn, operate, and scale in the real world. As a Hardware Engineer on our Robotics Lab team, you’ll bridge hardware and software, bringing up new robotic platforms, integrating sensors, building reliable data pipelines, and enabling researchers to rapidly prototype and deploy new capabilities.

What You’ll Do

  • Bring up, integrate, and maintain robotic platforms including humanoids, robotic manipulators, mobile robots, and custom end effectors.
  • Build and maintain robust integrations with ROS 2, hardware SDKs, and custom control interfaces.
  • Design scalable data collection pipelines for multimodal robotics datasets, including RGB, depth, IMU, force/torque, and joint telemetry using formats such as ROS Bag, HDF5, Parquet, and MP4.
  • Develop reliable teleoperation systems with an emphasis on low-latency control, observability, and operator experience.
  • Build and optimize real-time video streaming infrastructure using technologies including WebRTC, RTSP, FFmpeg, GStreamer, and HLS.
  • Integrate, synchronize, and calibrate advanced perception hardware including Intel RealSense, Luxonis OAK-D, ZED, FLIR, GigE, and USB camera systems.
  • Diagnose hardware, networking, and system-level issues across lab and remote deployments, supporting robot bring-up, maintenance, and fleet operations.
  • Improve developer tooling, automation, and documentation to increase reliability and research velocity.
  • Partner closely with researchers and engineers to rapidly prototype, test, and iterate on new robotic capabilities.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong programming skills in Python and C++, with working knowledge of C#.
  • Deep experience with ROS 2, Ubuntu/Linux, Docker, Git, and shell scripting.
  • Experience integrating robotics hardware through vendor SDKs and low-level hardware APIs.
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, SSH, VPNs, REST/gRPC, and WebSockets.
  • Hands-on experience building teleoperation systems and real-time video streaming infrastructure.
  • Experience integrating and calibrating multimodal sensor systems, including RGB, depth, stereo, and IMU sensors.
  • Familiarity with managing large robotics datasets using cloud storage platforms such as AWS S3 or Cloudflare R2.
  • Strong debugging skills across hardware, software, networking, and embedded systems.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, experimental environment where priorities evolve quickly.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting fleets of robots in production or research environments.
  • Familiarity with distributed robotics infrastructure and remote diagnostics.
  • Experience building tooling for robotics data collection, evaluation, or simulation.
  • Contributions to open-source robotics software or robotics research projects.
  • Experience with autonomous systems, computer vision, or embodied AI.
  • A passion for building real-world intelligent systems and solving challenging engineering problems alongside researchers.
