Job summary

Tutor Intelligence, Inc. is seeking an experienced engineer to own the software for robot data collection and experimentation. You’ll connect robots, operators, and data storage, enabling repeatable experiments and trustworthy data. You will define improvements across robot-side services, telemetry, deployment, and operator tools.

This is an autonomous individual contributor role with system ownership, collaborating with researchers and operators to maintain what you ship.

Qualifications

• Independently owning a substantial software system through design, deployment, operation, and debugging.
• Strong Python software engineering with maintainable code and tests.
• Practical Linux and networking knowledge with service deployment experience.
• Understanding of distributed-system failure modes and safe recovery.
• Experience building observability and using it to diagnose incidents.
• Ability to collaborate across unfamiliar system boundaries with daily users.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical approach and reliability of a major robot data collection system.
• Build and maintain robot-side and backend services, data pipelines, and tools.
• Make system health, data completeness, sensor timing, and experiment progress observable.
• Improve deployment, configuration, testing, recovery, and rollback for repeatability.
• Diagnose incidents across device interfaces, Linux, networking, concurrency, and storage.
• Prioritize work with researchers and operators and communicate scope and risks.
• Improve engineering tools, runbooks, and provide useful technical reviews.
