Job description

We are seeking an experienced Robotics & Controls Engineer to support the design, development, programming, integration, and optimization of advanced robotic automation systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong combination of mechanical engineering, robotics, PLC/controls, electrical, machine vision, and automation experience.

The engineer will be responsible for developing custom automation cells and robotic systems from concept through implementation, including mechanical design, robot programming, PLC/HMI development, safety integration, vision systems, and production optimization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design custom automation cells, robotic workcells, fixtures, and End-of-Arm Tooling (EOAT) using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Apply GD&T and ASME Y14.5 standards to mechanical designs and engineering drawings.
  • Perform robot reachability, payload, center-of-gravity, joint torque, and moment-of-inertia analyses.
  • Design, program, integrate, and optimize 6-axis industrial robots.
  • Develop and troubleshoot PLC programs using digital and analog I/O.
  • Develop intuitive HMI interfaces, machine sequences, alarms, and operator controls.
  • Integrate robots, PLCs, sensors, actuators, safety devices, and other automation equipment.
  • Develop and troubleshoot industrial electrical schematics and control-system prints.
  • Integrate and program machine vision systems for inspection, part location, and robotic guidance.
  • Perform machine and robotic-cell risk assessments and safety analyses.
  • Implement safety systems including safety PLCs, light curtains, interlocks, E-stops, and fail-safe mechanisms.
  • Ensure automation systems comply with applicable ANSI/RIA, ISO, and machine safety standards.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, controls, robotics, and automation issues during commissioning and production.
  • Optimize robot motion profiles, cycle times, throughput, and overall equipment performance.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and Value Stream Mapping principles to improve manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, mechanical, electrical, controls, and production teams throughout project execution.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5–7 years of relevant engineering experience in robotics, automation, controls, or manufacturing.
  • Successful completion of the FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) exam.
  • Strong experience with SolidWorks 2020 and AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T / ASME Y14.5.
  • Experience with powertrain fixture design and custom automation.
  • Advanced PLC and HMI programming experience.
  • Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems and electrical schematics.
  • Expert-level experience programming 6-axis industrial robots, such as FANUC, ABB, or KUKA.
  • Experience with machine vision platforms such as Cognex or Keyence.
  • Experience with robotic workcell integration and commissioning.
  • Knowledge of ISO 13849, ANSI B11.19, ANSI/RIA R15.06, and ISO 10218.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and system-integration skills.
