Job summary

Matrix Design is seeking a Robotics and Motion Control Systems Engineer to design and commission advanced control systems for manufacturing cells. You will program PLCs, develop HMIs, and integrate robots with safety systems to meet demanding performance requirements.

You will collaborate across mechanical, electrical, robot programming, and software groups, debug during build/startup, and document fixes and lessons learned while upholding safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • 5+ years leading controls engineering initiatives focused on automation and robotics.
  • Hands-on with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial robots (Rockwell/Siemens; FANUC/ABB/Yaskawa).
  • Deep knowledge of motion systems, VFDs, and servo drives.
  • Experience reading electrical schematics and networked control systems (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, ProfiNet).
  • Familiar with safety controllers or safety PLCs; knowledge of ANSI, NFPA, and ISO standards.

Experience that helps you succeed
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • 5+ years leading controls engineering initiatives focused on automation and robotics.
  • Hands-on with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial robots (e.g., Allen-BRADLEY/Siemens; FANUC/ABB/Yaskawa).
  • Deep knowledge of motion systems, VFDs, and servo drives.
  • Comfortable reading and contributing to electrical schematics.
  • Familiar with Ethernet/IP, Modbus, and ProfiNet networks.
  • Experience programming safety controllers or safety PLCs; knowledge of ANSI, NFPA, and ISO standards.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills for industrial electrical control systems.
  • Nice to have: Professional Engineer license or vendor certifications (Rockwell, Siemens).
Travel and compensation
  • Travel up to 40% for onsite build, commissioning, and customer support.
  • The posted salary range represents an estimate for this role. The final offer will be determined based on several factors, including the candidate's specific skills, professional experience, and relevant certifications.
