EZG Manufacturing is seeking a Robotic Welding Operator / Tack Welder to join our fabrication team. This role blends hands-on manual tacking with fixtures and operation of a robotic welding cell.

You will set up tank components in fixtures, load the fixtured tank onto the robot, and start the automated weld cycle, then move to tack the next tank in a second fixture. This role is ideal for an experienced welder/fitter looking to grow into robotic/automated welding or a current robot operator who

Qualifications

  • Welding experience required (MIG preferred).
  • Ability to read blueprints and work instructions.
  • Comfort around robotic/automated welding equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up tank components in fixtures and tack per blueprints, ensuring fit-up and accuracy before welding.
  • Transfer the tacked assembly to the robotic welder, load and clamp correctly, and start the weld cycle.
  • Tack up the next tank in the fixture while the robot welds the first, maintaining continuous flow.
  • Monitor weld cycles for faults, wire feed issues, or misalignment and respond quickly.
  • Visually inspect tack and finished welds for penetration and appearance; flag defects.
  • Maintain fixtures and equipment cleanliness; report wear or misalignment to maintenance.

Job description

Job Summary

We're adding a Robotic Welding Operator / Tack Welder to our fabrication team This role blends hands-on manual tacking with fixtures and hands-on operation of a robotic welding cell. The right person will set up and tack tank components in a fixture, load the fixtured tank onto the robotic welder, and start the automated weld cycle — then move directly to tacking the next tank in a second fixture while the robot completes its weld. This back-and-forth workflow keeps both the operator and the robot working continuously, so the role rewards someone who can keep a steady pace, stay organized, and take pride in consistent, high-quality work. This is a great fit for an experienced welder/fitter looking to grow into robotic/automated welding, or for a current robot operator who wants to sharpen manual tacking and fit-up skills.

What You'll Do

  • Fit and tack tanks: Set up tank components in weld fixtures and tack them per blueprint/work instructions, ensuring proper fit-up, squareness, and dimensional accuracy before welding.

  • Load and run the robot: Transfer the tacked tank assembly from the fixture onto the robotic welding cell, load/clamp it correctly, and initiate the robotic weld program.

  • Work two stations at once: While the robot welds one tank, tack up the next tank in the fixture so the cell never sits idle — keeping a continuous flow between manual tacking and robotic welding.

  • Monitor the robotic weld cycle: Watch for faults, wire feed issues, arc interruptions, or fixture/part misalignment, and respond quickly to keep the cell running.

  • Quality checks: Visually inspect tack welds and finished robotic welds for consistency, penetration, and appearance; flag or correct any fit-up or weld defects before parts move downstream.

  • Fixture and equipment care: Keep fixtures, clamps, and the robotic cell clean and in good working order; report wear, damage, or repeat misalignment issues to a supervisor or maintenance.

  • Housekeeping and safety: Follow all safety procedures for welding, fixtures, and robotic equipment, including lockout/tagout and safe zone awareness around the robot; maintain a clean, organized work area.

  • Production tracking: Track and report parts completed, downtime, and any recurring issues to help the team hit daily/weekly output targets on this job.

What We’re Looking For

  • Prior welding experience required (MIG preferred); experience tacking parts in fixtures is a strong plus.

  • Ability to read basic blueprints, weld symbols, and work instructions.

  • Comfortable working around robotic or automated equipment; prior robot operator experience is a plus but not required.

  • Strong attention to detail and a quality-first mindset.

  • Able to manage two tasks in rotation (tacking + robot loading/monitoring) and keep a steady, consistent pace throughout the shift.

  • Dependable, safety-conscious, and comfortable in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, bend, and reach for extended periods throughout the shift.

  • Ability to lift, carry, and position tank components and fixtures up to 50 lbs, with team lift or lifting assistance for heavier parts.

  • Ability to wear required PPE (welding helmet, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.) for the full shift.

  • Comfortable working near welding arcs, fixtures, and moving robotic equipment while following all posted safety procedures.
