Job summary

Magna exteriors division is seeking a skilled Robot Technician to maintain and optimize robotic painting systems for automotive exterior components. You will follow control plans, support TPM maintenance, and ensure paint quality according to TS-16949 standards across multiple lines.

The role requires hands-on experience with robotic equipment, electrical and mechanical aptitude, and the ability to document maintenance logs, participate in continuous improvement teams, and train front-line staff.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in a related and technical field; six years work related experience may be substituted.
  • Must pass Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Point Hue Test annually.
  • Must be computer literate on the Windows platform.

Responsibilities

  • Support process and maintenance activities consistent with departmental expectations.
  • Operate robotic equipment according to the control plans to meet quality standards and delivery schedule.
  • Identify, communicate and document difficulties relating to product, process and quality system per TS-16949 directives.
  • Initiate, recommend or provide solutions to prevent non-conformities relating to product, process and quality system.
  • Verify implementation and update control plans per TS-16949 protocol.
  • Develop, implement, verify and document paint parameter settings for all application equipment.
  • Complete maintenance per TPM plan to ensure optimum performance of the robotic equipment.
  • Perform daily maintenance on electrostatic spray guns and related equipment and calibrate as directed.
  • Maintain organized daily logs of maintenance, process data and verification records.
  • Participate in continuous improvement teams as assigned by Robot Technician Team Leader.
  • Train personnel in paint application methods per control plans.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Robot Technician Team Leader.

Job Responsibilities
Specific Job Duties
  • Support process and maintenance activities consistent with departmental expectations and goals (See attached Performance Objectives).
  • Operate robotic equipment in accordance to the control plans established in order to satisfy the customer quality standards and delivery schedule.
  • Identify, communicate and document any difficulties relating to the product, process and/or quality system as per Norplas' TS-16949 directives.
  • Initiate, recommend or provide solutions to prevent the occurrence of any non-conformities relating to the product, process and/or quality system through designated channels.
  • Verify implementation and effectiveness of recommended solutions. Participate in control plan updates as per TS-16949 protocol.
  • Develop, implement, verify and document paint parameter settings for all application equipment to maintain the specified quality standards detailed in the control plans of all products.
  • Complete all maintenance as directed in the total productive maintenance plan to ensure optimum performance of the robotic equipment.
  • Perform all daily maintenance on electrostatic spray guns and related equipment to ensure optimum performance and paint utilization. Verify and calibrate as directed in the total productive maintenance plan to ensure the accuracy and repeatability of the painting process.
  • Maintain organized daily logs of all maintenance activities, process parameter data and verification records.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement teams as assigned by the Robot Technician Team Leader.
  • Train personnel as directed by the Robot Technician Team Leader in the implementation of the specified paint application methods and parameters in accordance to the control plans established.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Robot Technician Team Leader.
Educational Requirements
  • Associate's Degree in a related and technical field of study required. Six years work related experience may be substituted in lieu of degree. Work experience combined with current schooling towards degree will be considered.
  • Must pass Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Point Hue Test annually.
  • Must be computer literate on the Windows platform.
Related Work Experience
  • Previous automotive finishing and robotic experience required.
  • Mechanical and electrical experience with industrial control an asset.
  • Computer technology and programming an asset.
Physical Requirements
  • This position requires a person to have the ability to perform work while standing or walking a minimum of eight (8) hours a day, the ability to lift up to15 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis, and the ability to perform work that is below the knees and above the shoulders on an occasional basis. Ability to climb stairs is necessary. Ability to wear a respirator is necessary. Good vision at a close distance is required.
