Job summary

Magna Exteriors is seeking a Maintenance Technician to support automated painting and assembly processes. You will maintain robot cells, troubleshoot controllers, and ensure safety and quality in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in a related technical field; six years work experience may be substituted.
  • Must be computer literate on the Windows platform.

Responsibilities

  • Support process and maintenance activities consistent with departmental expectations and goals.
  • Identify, communicate and document difficulties relating to the product, process and/or quality system as per Decostar’s IATF 16949 directives.
  • Initiate, recommend or provide solutions to prevent non-conformities relating to the product, process and/or quality system.
  • Verify implementation and effectiveness of recommended solutions; participate in control plan updates per IATF 16949.
  • Develop, implement, verify and document parameter settings for all application equipment to maintain quality standards.
  • Work with equipment suppliers to collect data on new technology tested in the process.
  • Complete all maintenance per the TPM plan to ensure optimum equipment performance.
  • Maintain organized daily logs of all maintenance activities and data.
  • Participate in continuous improvement teams as assigned by Maintenance manager.
  • Must be able to work any shift, weekends and overtime.

Job Responsibilities:

General Job Duties:

  • Do no use, operate or make changes to any equipment or machinery that may endanger any persons, including yourself.

Specific Job Duties:

  • Support process and maintenance activities consistent with departmental expectations and goals.

  • Identify, communicate and document any difficulties relating to the product, process and/or quality system as per Decostars IATF 16949 directives.

  • Initiate, recommend or provide solutions to prevent the occurrence of any non-conformities relating to the product, process and/or quality system through designated channels.

  • Verify implementation and effectiveness of recommended solutions. Participate in control plan updates as per IATF 16949 protocol.

  • Develop, implement, verify and document parameter settings for all application equipment to maintain the specified quality standards detailed in the control plans of all products.

  • Work with equipment suppliers to accurately collect application and performance data on new technology tested in the process.

  • Complete all maintenance as directed in the total productive maintenance plan to ensure optimum performance of the equipment.

  • Maintain organized daily logs of all maintenance activities, process parameter data and verification records.

  • Actively participate in continuous improvement teams as assigned by the Maintenance manager.

  • Must be able to work any shift, weekends and overtime.

  • Train personnel as directed by the department leadership in the implementation of the specified preventative maintenance methods in accordance to the control plans established.

  • Report all accidents, injuries, and near misses immediately.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the department leadership.

Educational Requirements:

  • Associate’s Degree in a related and technical field of study required. Six years work related experience may be substituted in lieu of degree. Work experience combined with current schooling towards degree will be considered.

  • Must be computer literate on the Windows platform.

Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to operate robot teach pendants and perform basic robot jogging, mastering checks, program selection, and fault recovery.
  • Knowledge of robot safety procedures including lockout/tagout, teach mode safety, enabling devices, restricted space entry, and robot cell interlocks.
  • Ability to troubleshoot robot controllers, servo motors, drives, encoders, brake circuits, I/O modules, cabling, and communication faults.
  • Experience with robot path touch-up, position verification, tool center point checks, and program adjustment under approved process controls.
  • Knowledge of paint robot systems, including Rotary and conventional atomizers, color changers, dump valves, trigger signals, shape air, turbine air, high voltage, and fluid delivery.
  • Ability to rebuild and service fluid delivery components, including pumps, regulators, valves, fittings, hoses, filters, color changers, dump valves, trigger valves, and atomizer-related fluid components.
  • Ability to support preventive maintenance on robots, including grease/lubrication, cable dress inspection, axis brake checks, reducer inspection and wrist/drive shaft inspection.
  • Experience identifying and resolving robot alarms related to motion, servo faults, overtravel, collision detection, safety circuits, communication, and process equipment.
  • Ability to read robot manuals, electrical prints, pneumatic diagrams, fluid schematics, and robot cell layouts.
  • Knowledge of robot calibration, mastering, payload checks, user frames, tool frames, and axis limit verification.
  • Experience with robot backup and restore procedures, program version control, and documenting robot parameter changes.
  • Familiar with communication protocols between robots, PLCs, HMIs, conveyor tracking, applicators, and safety devices.
  • Ability to use electrical test equipment such as multimeters, megohmmeters and clamp meters.
  • Experience supporting automated paint booth start-up, shutdown, purge, color change, and applicator verification routines.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis on robot downtime and recommend corrective actions to improve uptime, repeatability, and process stability.
  • Experience coordinating with robot OEMs, applicator suppliers, controls engineers, maintenance, and production teams during troubleshooting and equipment improvements.

Physical Requirements

This position requires a person to have the ability to perform work while standing or walking a minimum of eight (8) hours a day, the ability to lift up to 20 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis, and the ability to perform work that is below the knees and above the shoulders on an occasional basis. Ability to climb stairs is necessary. Ability to wear a respirator is necessary. Good vision at a close distance is required. Training Requirements:

  • You will receive training to perform your job on an on-going basis concurrent with Decostar business operations. Training areas will include safety, quality, continuous improvement and other job specific training that is determined to be an essential part of your job and Decostar business operations.
