Job summary

ATI is hiring a Robot Control Lead to own the control stack powering our automated tire-changing and wheel-balancing robots. You will lead design, development, and deployment of real-time control across joints and perception-driven systems, collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and software teams.

The role is hands-on with leadership responsibilities: guide engineers, translate models to production code, and support on-site commissioning and deployment in an industrial setting.

Qualifications

• Expertise in robotics and control theory with a track record of deploying control systems for physical robots.
• Experience with impedance and force control using sensor feedback.
• Familiarity with robot motion planning and trajectory control in dynamic environments.
• Proficiency with ROS/ROS2 and robot simulation tools for development and testing.
• Hands-on leadership and collaboration across mechanical, electrical, and perception teams.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture and implementation of the robot control stack from joint space to whole-body Cartesian control.
• Design and implement impedance and force control strategies using force-torque feedback.
• Develop and tune real-time control loops meeting safety and reliability requirements.
• Create motion and trajectory generation methods balancing speed and safety.
• Build and maintain simulation environments (IsaacSim, MuJoCo) for validation and regression testing.
• Translate models into production-grade real-time code using MATLAB/Simulink.
• Industrialize control software for field deployment and scale.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, perception, and product teams to align requirements.
• Mentor engineers on the software controls team and guide best practices.
• Support on-site commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of deployed robots.
