Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Trade school diploma or certificate in equipment operation highly desired.
• Less than 2 years experience operating heavy equipment in a quarry or similar environment.
• Strong understanding of safety protocols and MSHA regulations.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections and report maintenance needs.
• Utilize Rock Breaker Attachment on an Excavator to meet business need and operational goals.
• Excavate and move earth, rock, and materials to support quarry operations.
• Maintain haul roads and work areas for safe traffic flow.

Job description

This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various types of heavy equipment in a crushed stone or sand and gravel quarry environment. The Roaming Rock Breaker Operator will demonstrate proficiency in operating excavators and other equipment as needed to support quarry operations and achieve production goals.

Job Summary

This role does require travel across the North Alabama territory and beyond. Overnights are a possibility and expectation from time to time with this position.

Essential Functions

• Safely and efficiently operate a variety of equipment (excavators; haul trucks, dozers, graders)
• Maintain precise control of each piece of equipment, adapting to varying terrain and weather conditions.
• Perform pre‑and post‑trip inspections of all equipment operated, reporting any maintenance needs or safety concerns.
• Utilize the Rock Breaker Attachment on an Excavator to meet business need, customer demand, and operational goals.
• Excavate and move earth, rock, and other materials as needed to support quarry operations.
• Maintain haul roads and work areas, ensuring safe and efficient traffic flow.
• Assist in various quarry tasks, such as stockpile management, plant feeding, and general site maintenance.
• Perform basic maintenance checks on all equipment operated.
• Collaborate with maintenance teams for repairs and preventive maintenance.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Equipment Operation: Proficiency in operating excavators to accurately and smoothly maneuver and complete various tasks, such as loading, dumping, and transporting materials. Skill in handling attachments and understanding their applications.

• Technical Expertise: Solid mechanical understanding of mobile equipment, including basic maintenance checks and troubleshooting minor issues. Ability to identify signs of equipment malfunction, understand and report them to the maintenance team.

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Trade school diploma or certificate in equipment operation is highly desired.

Experience

• Less than 2 (two) years experience operating heavy equipment in a quarry or similar environment.

• Proven experience operating various types of heavy equipment.
• Strong understanding of safety protocols and MSHA regulations.
• Ability to operate heavy machinery safely and efficiently in challenging terrain.

• Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, materials moved, and tasks completed.
• Complete any necessary paperwork or electronic documentation as required.
