Job summary

State of Iowa - Executive Branch seeks a Highway Technician to inspect construction projects in summer and assist maintenance garages with snow removal in winter. This role supports safer roadways and involves working across multiple areas as part of a unified team.

Residents of the Dubuque area can expect a standard 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM schedule, with on-call duties during emergencies and possible overnight travel. Entry-level training is available at hire.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED with related work experience.
• Two years of related highway maintenance/inspection experience preferred.
• CDL permit required at hire; CDL with endorsements must be obtained within 5 months.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine sampling, inspection, and testing of materials used in highway construction.
• Maintain construction records.
• Inform contractors and project inspectors of quality issues and non-complying work.
• Operate snow equipment for snow removal during winter.
• Perform routine maintenance and servicing of DOT equipment and vehicles.
• Repair and maintain guardrails, signs, fences, and lighting.
