Job summary

State of Iowa seeks a Highway Technician Associate for the Martensdale Maintenance Garage to support roadside maintenance, patch roads, repair guardrails, manage signage, and assist with winter snow removal. The role emphasizes safety, reliability, and working as part of the Iowa DOT team.

You will be required to obtain a CDL permit upon hire, pursue Class A endorsements within five months, and pass pre-employment checks including drug screening and physicals.

Qualifications

• CDL permit required at hire.
• CDL with endorsements and applicable restrictions must be obtained within five months of hire.
• Pre-employment drug screen and ongoing random testing required.
• Post-offer, pre-employment physical required.
• Residency within 45 minutes driving time from assigned location.
• Overnight travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Patch roadways and repair/maintain guardrails, signs, fences, lighting, culverts, and waterways.
• Assist in traffic control for maintenance activities.
• Pick up and dispose of litter and debris.
• Operate snow equipment for snow/ice removal from roadways.
• Mow and manage vegetation; spray as needed.
• Perform routine maintenance on DOT equipment and vehicles.
