Job summary

State of Iowa - Executive Branch is seeking a Highway Technician to inspect and support roadway construction and maintenance in Davenport. The role includes frequent fieldwork, recording test data, and coordinating with contractors to ensure quality and safety.

The position requires a CDL within five months, residency near the Davenport Maintenance Garage, and a 7:00 AM–3:30 PM weekday schedule with on-call duties and possible overnight travel. Training and benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus two years of highway maintenance, equipment operation, construction inspection, field work in engineering surveying, or materials testing.
• Two years of post-high-school education (30 semester hours) counts as one year of full-time experience in related fields.
• Current continuous state executive branch experience with eighteen months as Highway Technician Associate or Construction Technician Assistant.

Responsibilities

• Inspect construction projects and maintain construction records.
• Inform contractors and project inspectors of quality issues and non-complying work.
• Operate snow removal equipment during winter.
• Repair and maintain DOT equipment, guardrails, signs, fences, and lighting.
• Contribute to safer roadways through field and office tasks as needed.
