Job summary

The State of Iowa - Executive Branch is seeking a Highway Technician Associate based in Waterloo. The role involves hands-on, outdoor road maintenance, operating safety equipment, and supporting traffic control during operations.

Requirements include a CDL permit at hire with endorsements to be obtained within five months, and residency within 45 minutes of the Waterloo Maintenance Garage. Typical shift is 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with on-call and occasional overnight travel.

Qualifications

• CDL permit required at hire; endorsements to be obtained within 5 months.

Responsibilities

• Patch roadway and maintain roadside infrastructure.
• Repair/maintain guardrails, signs, fences, lighting, culverts, and waterways.
• Assist in traffic control during maintenance activities.
• Litter/debris pickup and disposal.
• Operate snow equipment for snow/ice removal.
• Mow and manage vegetation; apply sprays as needed.
• Perform routine maintenance on DOT equipment and vehicles.
