Volkert is seeking an experienced Roadway Project Manager to lead transportation design efforts in the Mid-Atlantic region from Pittsburgh or Camp Hill, PA. The role emphasizes coordinating roadway design projects, supervising staff, and delivering high-quality documentation for all project phases.

The ideal candidate holds a BS in Civil Engineering, PA PE, and 8+ years of relevant experience, including DOT design methods and plan preparation. A valid driver's license and MVR are required.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Civil Engineering required.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant industry experience.
• At least 4 years of progressive responsibility in the industry.
• PA Turnpike or PennDOT roadway design experience.
• Pennsylvania PE license required.
• Experience with DOT design methods, plan prep, standards and specs.
• Valid driver's license and ability to pass pre-employment drug screening.
• Post-offer fit for duty evaluation may be required; reliable motor vehicle record.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage roadway projects in PA, directing designers to deliver project work.
• Hire and manage production staff for roadway design projects.
• Organize activities, schedules and reporting for assigned projects.
• Prepare, issue and track contracts, change orders and client sign-off.
• Prepare correspondence with clients, vendors and regulatory agencies.
• Assist with invoices, purchase orders and coordination with outside resources.
• Prepare meeting minutes and presentations.
• Support project submittals and bidding activities.
• Provide technical and administrative support to the project team.
• Market new and existing clients and engage with the public on project plans.
• Participate in business development and client meetings with a team approach.
• Identify and analyze problems to reach sound engineering conclusions.

Volkert is searching for an experienced Roadway Project Manager to support and lead transportation design projects in our Mid-Atlantic Region in our Pittsburgh, PA or Camp Hill, PA office.

To be considered for this position, applicants must have, at minimum, a BS degree in Civil Engineering.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for coordination and oversight of roadway design projects and roadway design staff.

What you’ll be doing:

• Lead and manage Roadway projects and tasks in Pennsylvania for the development of project designs and directing designers to successfully execute and deliver project work, while implementing client focused strategies
• Hire and manage production staff to support roadway design for projects
• Responsible for organizing activities, schedules, and reporting in support of assigned projects
• Prepare, issue and track project documentation such as contracts, change orders, client sign-off, etc. for all phases of assigned project work
• Prepare correspondence and documents with clients, vendors and regulatory agencies as required
• Assist with other documents such as invoices and purchase orders; and communicate with outside resources when needed
• Preparing and/or editing meeting minutes and presentations
• Assist with project submittals and bidding activities
• Provide support to project team as requested
• Support our team and client by providing technical and administrative support
• Market new and existing clients
• Interacting with clients and the public related to your work and understanding the context of the plans you develop
• Aspiring to work in a team environment and participating in business development efforts and meetings with clients. Working as part of a team to deliver a range of transportation and civil design projects
• Identifying and analyzing problems using reasoning to arrive at sound engineering conclusions
• Adhering to company standards for quality assurance and quality control as defined in the quality manual

What you need to have:

• BS degree in Civil Engineering
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant industry experience
• At least 4 years of progressive responsibility within the industry
• PA Turnpike or PennDOT roadway design experience
• Pennsylvania PE is required
• Experience in DOT design methods, plan preparation, standards, and specifications
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines.
• If applicable to the position, a post offer fit for duty evaluation to ensure the individual can safely perform the essential functions of the role.
• Valid driver’s license.
