Job summary

GFT is seeking an emerging Highway/Roadway Project Engineer to support its Transportation group across the Midwest. The role focuses on design and development of roadway projects in Kansas City, St. Louis, Wichita, or Omaha, with a hybrid model requiring onsite presence.

You will manage design tasks, prepare plans and documents, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects on time and within budget while maintaining quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelors in civil engineering from ABET-accredited university.
• Active PE license in KS, MO, or NE; additional state licensure is a plus.
• 8+ years of experience in transportation design and highway design.
• Experience with State DOT and/or local municipality design projects.
• Proficient in MicroStation, OpenRoads, and Microsoft Office.
• Strong communication, organization, and teamwork.
• Ability to work in a team, self-starter, and eager to learn.

Responsibilities

• Perform design tasks for roadway projects from concept to final design and construction support.
• Develop plans, specifications, cost estimates, reports, and bid packages.
• Coordinate with client staff and project managers.
• Mentor junior engineers on project assignments.
• Lead meetings and coordinate design activities with subconsultants and clients.
• Manage staffing, scheduling, budgets, and QA/QC.
• Support project managers and multi-task across projects.
