Job summary

Arizona Department of Transportation is hiring for a Highway and Construction Laborer in Flagstaff, AZ, offering a $4,000 hiring incentive and a salary range of $37,838–$50,848 per year. The position is located at 5151 - Flagstaff Maintenance, 5701 E Railhead Ave, Flagstaff, AZ 86004.

Anticipated hourly range is $18.1918–$24.4464. Duties include operating vehicles, pavement and landscape work, signing/striping, and environmental compliance. Closing date: October 28, 2026.

Qualifications

• 6 months of Roadway/Highway job related experience as determined by the assigned area’s needs which may include operating motorized vehicles and heavy-duty equipment and maintenance, signing/striping of roadways, pavement care and preservation, roadway operations, tunnel maintenance, or landscape care and preservation.
• 1 year of job related Roadway/Highway experience for Tech 1, including operation of motorized vehicles and heavy-duty equipment and maintenance, signing/striping of roadways, pavement care and preservation, roadway operations, tunnel maintenance, or landscape care and preservation.
• 2 years of job related Roadway/Highway experience for Tech 2, including operation of motorized vehicles and heavy-duty equipment and maintenance, signing/striping of roadways, pavement care and preservation, roadway operations, tunnel maintenance, or landscape care and preservation.
• 3 years of job related Roadway/Highway experience for Tech 3, including operation of motorized vehicles and heavy-duty equipment and maintenance, signing/striping of roadways, pavement care and preservation, roadway operations, tunnel maintenance, or landscape care and preservation.

Responsibilities

• Highway Operations Worker: operation of motorized vehicles and equipment, pavement care and preservation, landscape care and preservation, roadside shoulder restoration and repairs, signing and striping, delivery of equipment and materials, environmental compliance, vehicle and equipment care.
• Highway Operations Tech 1-3 responsibilities include learning and performing duties from entry to journey level, including scheduling, assigning, and overseeing subordinates work, inspecting work, training staff, and ensuring safety and compliance.
• All positions require CDL qualification and adherence to driver safety standards; some positions require additional endorsements; responsibilities include responding to emergencies and meeting CDL-related requirements.
