CDL Recruitment Bonus!

You may qualify for a one-time recruitment bonus up to $5,000 if you have a Class “A” CDL License (preferably with no transmission restrictions) at time of hire.   • Roadway Maintenance Tech/Trans Maintenance Tech III: A18 ($45,521.00 – $71,055.00/yearly)

This position performs highly complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: contract maintenance and material and process inspection; roadway maintenance and repair; operates light and heavy equipment; preventative and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; helping the public during emergency situations; and training other employees. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

The essential duties for the Roadway Maintenance Tech (Trans Maintenance Tech) I, II or III include:
  • Assists in identifying, repairing and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs basic welding as needed; as required uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products related to these activities.
  • Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as required.
  • Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.
  • Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.
  • Move/picks up litter and roadway debris.
  • Operates complex heavy equipment such as a motor grader, large excavator, heavy bulldozer, crane, herbicide truck, heavy asphalt paving machine, self-propelled asphalt distributor, and profiling/milling machine.
  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes various required reports including timekeeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and PMI.
  • Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Roadway Accidents/Inclement Weather/Natural Disasters
Additional duties for Roadway Maintenance Tech (Trans Maintenance Tech) II include:
  • Serves as the only maintenance contract inspector on a small project.
  • Identifies, repairs, and installs signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs welding; and uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products.
  • Inspects routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.

Operates light equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a quarter cubic yards or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, and mower.

Additional duties for Roadway Maintenance Tech (Trans Maintenance Tech) III include:
  • Inspects traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices, safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs highly skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.
  • Inspects routine and non-routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Operates complex heavy equipment such as a front-end loader one and a half cubic yards or more, tractor-trailer haul truck, large dragline, shovel, paint striper, and dump truck.
  • May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications.
  • Trains other employees.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems.

*Experience must be in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience.(Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Licenses and Certifications:

Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Commercial Driver Certificate

Commercial Driver's License - Must have a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" Endorsement or have obtained a CDL "A" License, within 12 months/1 year from date of employment.

Currently Military or Veterans:

US Military CDL Equivalent Conditions of Employment: US Military License candidates must successfully obtain Texas Class “A” CDL within 120 days of employment (or whatever number of days deemed appropriate, I.e., 30, or 60 days). Preferred Qualifications:
