Job summary

Arkansas Department of Transportation is seeking a Maintenance Aide I to operate a single-axle truck or tractor with mowing apparatus and perform various road maintenance tasks. Candidate must obtain Class A CDL within specified timelines; pre-employment drug test required; flexible to work in all weather.

This role includes operating power tools, loading materials, flagging, and emergency response duties as part of a maintenance crew responsible for highways and facilities in Arkansas.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public and to understand highway signs.
• Experience operating a truck, tractor or heavy equipment preferred.
• Basic math and computer skills.
• Ability to learn local street and highway names/numbers.
• Ability to follow oral instructions.

Responsibilities

• Operate a single-axle dump truck hauling highway construction or maintenance materials frequently.
• Mow grass and weeds using large tractors and gang mowers frequently.
• Perform landscape maintenance and tree cutting with small power equipment.
• Use hand tools and power tools to repair highways on site.
• Load and unload bags of salt, sand, cement, chemicals, etc. frequently.
• Pick up litter and manage debris regularly.
• Flag traffic and assist crew with signs and cones in work zones.
• Respond to emergencies 24/7 as needed.
• Assist in ice and snow removal operations.
