Job summary

State of Colorado, Department of Transportation, is seeking a Highway Maintenance Specialist in Telluride to perform winter plowing and summer maintenance tasks on Colorado roadways. The role requires operating heavy equipment and working as part of a patrol team to keep highways safe and accessible.

You will work on-call and respond to weather events, with opportunities for training, benefits, and advancement within CDOT.

Qualifications

• CDL is required (Class A or B) with a focus on safety and physical outdoors work.
• Ability to operate trucks and heavy equipment as part of roadway maintenance.
• Willingness to be on-call, respond to weather and emergencies, and work as part of a patrol team.

Responsibilities

• Plow snow and maintain roadways.
• Operate heavy equipment (e.g., tandem dump truck, loader, tractor mower).
• Mow grass and weeds along rights-of-way.
• Remove debris from roadways, culverts, tunnels, and drainage.
• Install/repair guardrails, signs, lighting and pavement markings.
• Fill potholes and repair road surfaces; set traffic controls as needed.
• Maintain equipment and follow safety protocols.
