St. Louis County Government Department of Transportation and Public Works is seeking Maintenance Driver II candidates to operate heavy equipment and perform skilled roadway maintenance. Most shifts are 7:00 a.m.
to 3:30 p.m., with snow shifts earning a $6 per hour increase and potential 12-hour commitments during winter. Two years of related maintenance experience and a valid Class A CDL with endorsements are required; a Class B CDL is acceptable with the Class A required within six months.
St. Louis County Government Department of Transportation and Public Works is looking for individuals interested in becoming a Maintenance Driver II. These positions will report to an assigned District and could be required to lead a crew on assignments performing skilled roadway maintenance work including heavy equipment operation. Examples of assigned crews include on grass cutting, tree trimming, concrete, asphalt and other specialty roadway maintenance crews.
The typical work hours are Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. The Sweeping Crew position work hours will be Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Some crews work 6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday from April to October.
The typical starting salary will be $23.65 per hour. This position will require mandatory 12 hour snow shift and will receive a $6 per hour increase for snow removal.

Requires two years of experience in general maintenance or related work or an equivalent amount of training and experience.
Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements is also required.
A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements will be considered. However, a Class A CDL will be required within the first 6 months of employment.
All candidates (including County employees currently not working in a CDL position) must undergo a drug screen after a conditional offer. Employment is contingent upon negative test results. Mandatory Ongoing Testing - in compliance with federal regulations, employees with a Commercial Driver's License are subject to random, post-accident, reasonable-suspicion and return to duty testing.
A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available. The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire. The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision. All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County.
