Job summary

Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is seeking motivated individuals for the Highway Lighting Technician role. You will perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on roadway lighting systems along state freeways and intersections to keep Utah highways safe.

This is a hands-on, safety-sensitive field position with exposure to high-voltage systems and live traffic. Training and safety protocols are provided, and travel may be required across the state.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of combined education, training, or professional work experience in electrical or technical trades.
• Licensure: Active license as a Master, Journeyman, or Apprentice Electrician in the State of Utah.
• Driver's License: Valid driver's license and willingness to travel state-wide (including occasional overnight stays).

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot & field repair luminaire fixtures and identify electrical power issues.
• Safely perform work on 240/480V single-phase power circuits with traffic safety protocols.
• Manage asset inventories, log maintenance, and track work orders using GIS and ATOM software (training provided).
• Participate in rotational after-hours on-call schedule and statewide travel including overnight stays.
