Job summary

University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to perform a range of highway construction and maintenance tasks. You will operate and transport specialized heavy equipment to keep roadways and rights-of-way safe.

This role requires two years of relevant work experience, a valid Wisconsin CDL with N endorsement within six months, and a pre-employment physical and background check. Expect winter maintenance duties and adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

• Must have 2 years of paid, full-time heavy equipment operation experience.
• Must pass criminal background check.
• Pre-employment physical exam required.
• Must undergo drug/alcohol testing during employment.
• Must hold valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
• Must obtain Wisconsin Class A CDL with N endorsement within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain heavy equipment for highway and roadside construction and maintenance.
• Load, deliver, and unload materials using trucks with tanks and trailers.
• Perform daily safety checks, preventive maintenance, and incident reporting.
• Assist with snow/ice control and de-icing operations; apply materials as required.
• Set grades with level tools and interpret grade stakes for projects.
• Maintain vegetation, signs, and traffic control devices as needed.
• Follow MUTCD guidelines and ensure safety for workers and traveling public.
