Job summary

GFT is seeking a Roadway Engineering Intern in Austin, TX to support a busy roadway team. You will gain hands-on experience on highways, bridges, and traffic projects, with mentorship from experienced engineers. The majority of interns convert to full-time roles after demonstrating capability.

Responsibilities include creating drawings in AutoCAD/MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer, performing basic calculations, and assisting with field inspections to support project needs.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Demonstrated interest or prior internship in Roadway/Highway Engineering, including design, inspection, and construction.
• Basic proficiency in CAD, spreadsheets, interpreting design drawings, and technical writing.
• Self-motivated team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support real client projects by creating engineering and construction drawings using MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer or AutoCAD.
• Assist in basic engineering tasks such as calculations and data input into analysis software.
• Participate in field assignments, including inspections of roadways and highways.
• Contribute to project phases by reviewing drawings, proofreading reports, and performing related tasks.
