Job summary

Horrocks, a transportation-focused firm, is seeking a Roadway Engineering Intern in Logan, UT. You will work with senior engineers to gain hands-on experience in roadway design for transportation projects, including calculations, plan development, and CAD preparation for bidding and construction.

This internship offers flexible scheduling while in school, mentorship from industry professionals, and exposure to industry standards and tools. Compensation is hourly and supports academic goals.

Qualifications

• Enrolled as a Junior or Senior pursuing a BSCE in Civil Engineering.
• Intend to take and pass the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) exam.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to use word processing, spreadsheets and collaboration apps.

Responsibilities

• Work with roadway team under Senior Roadway Engineers to design roadways for transportation projects.
• Assist with a range of project assignments.
• Perform design work, calculations and plan development activities.
• Use CADD software to prepare plan sets for bidding and construction.
• Learn standards and tools to produce quality deliverables.
• Coordinate work and school schedule with team members.

Compensation: $18.00 - $22.00 / hour

What are the core responsibilities for the role?

• Work as part of the roadway team under the direction of Senior Roadway Engineers to perform roadway design for transportation projects
• You will assist with a range of project assignments
• Your work will include design, calculations, and plan development
• Use computer aided drafting and design (CADD) software to prepare plan sets for bidding and construction
• Learn the standards and tools of the trade so you can apply this knowledge to produce quality deliverables
• Coordinate your work & school schedule with team members

Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:

• Be a Junior or Senior working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE)
• Have the intent to take and pass the Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) exam
• Be motivated to work hard in order to learn and acquire new skills
• Have good written and verbal communication skills
• Possess the ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, and collaboration applications
• Be organized and have the ability to work with different staff members
• Apply good time management skills
