Qualifications

Job description

Overview

Seeking a new career challenge? Then Woolpert is seeking you! Woolpert is hiring a Roadway Engineer Team Lead in Transportation Design to join our dynamic Infrastructure team at our Ohio (Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton, Cleveland), Indianapolis or Kentucky offices. This position reports to the Discipline Leader and is responsible for staff work assignments, career growth, and day-to-day management of staff. Qualified candidates will have the ability to work across disciplines to ensure project staffing or project completion. Priority will be given to candidates who have prior people management experience.

Responsibilities

As a Roadway Engineering Team Lead at Woolpert, you will:

  • Lead designs, break off work on projects, perform QAQC, and assist with proposals for new work.
  • Fulfill a dual role requiring a specific personality and the desire to help staff achieve goals.
  • Collaborate with several project managers to properly staff projects and maintain a healthy work environment.
  • Work collaboratively with other transportation disciplines as well as across non-transportation disciplines.
  • Balance responsibilities as a transportation engineer and people manager, focusing on growth and excellence in both areas.
  • Oversee staff growth, goal setting, reviews, and day-to-day management.
  • Hire new staff as needed for the team.
  • Work with project managers to ensure projects are staffed correctly.
  • Assist project managers on proposals, scopes, and fees.
  • Lead the design of complex roadway and transportation projects that require creative solutions, including roadway, bikeways, pedestrian facilities, roundabouts, trails, and multi-modal transportation or planning.
  • Direct engineering design tasks such as highway and street design, roadway alignments, roundabout design, roadway grading and modeling, curb ramp design, signing and pavement plan, maintenance of traffic, and storm drainage.
  • Utilize local and federal roadway standards to prepare preliminary and final design documents, cost estimates, and bid documents.
  • Perform detailed reviews of design plans and supporting documents.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BS in Civil Engineering or related technical design field.
  • Must be a licensed PE.
  • Must work near an office that staff are in (Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton, Cleveland).
  • Must be a leader capable of managing a team with diverse experience levels and backgrounds.
  • Ability to work across disciplines to ensure project staffing or completion.
  • If licensed in another state, the ability to obtain a license in Ohio.
  • Ability to lead design and allocate work to others.
  • Experience in roadway, highway, trail, bikeway/pedestrian, and/or roadway drainage design.
  • Expertise in Civil 3D and/or MicroStation OpenRoads Designer (ORD).

Preferred Skills and Abilities

  • A minimum of 10+ years of professional experience preferred.
  • Prior people management experience is a plus.
