Job summary

Hanson is seeking a Roadway Engineer (EIT) to design and execute transportation projects for local governments and MoDOT/IDOT, delivering engineering designs, construction plans, contract documents, and technical reports.

You will support roadway design efforts, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on highways, streets, bridges and intersections, perform site visits, assist with public involvement, proposals, and presentations, and help with project delivery from planning through

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (required).
  • EIT license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Experience with roadway design and drafting standards.
  • Proficiency with MicroStation, AutoCAD and roadway design software.
  • Familiarity with MoDOT, IDOT and agency requirements.
  • Understanding of utility coordination.
  • Experience with Corridor Modeling and Autoturn (preferred).
  • Preparation of drawings following drafting standards for bidding/construction documents.
  • Strong oral communication and technical writing skills.

A Day in the Life of a Roadway Engineer (EIT) at Hanson

Here’s a snapshot of what you would do in this role:

  • Design and execute transportation projects for local governments and state DOTs (MoDOT, IDOT)

  • Prepare engineering designs, construction plans, contract documents, and technical reports

  • Support roadway design efforts

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on projects such as highways, streets, bridges, culverts, sidewalks, intersections, and more

  • Support projects from initial planning through design and construction

  • Perform site visits to assess conditions and develop solutions

  • Assist with public involvement activities, board meetings, and grant applications

  • Participate in construction observation and resident engineering duties

  • Support client relationships, including effective communication with internal and external stakeholders

  • Assist with project proposals, and presentations

  • Prepare computations to support completed design

  • Other duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For

We feel the following qualifications would set you up for success in this role:

Technical Skills:

  • Experience with roadway design

  • Proficiency in MicroStation, AutoCAD and roadway design software (Geopak, OpenRoads Designer, or Civil 3D)

  • Familiarity with MoDOT, IDOT, and other agency requirements

  • Understanding of utility coordination

  • Experience with Corridor Modeling, and Autoturn (preferred)

  • Preparation of drawings following drafting standards to prepared easy to understand ps&e documents for bidding/construction of projects

  • Strong oral communication and technical writing skills

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (required)

  • EIT license or ability to obtain within 6 months
