Job summary

Poutrix is seeking an entry-level Transportation Roadway Intern for Fall 2026 to join its teams in Nashville, TN. The role offers mentoring and training in roadway transportation design, allowing interns to prepare conceptual designs and construction plans.

Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of geometric and traffic operations principles including AASHTO and MUTCD.

Role Description

Arcadis is seeking an entry‑level Transportation Roadway Intern for Fall 2026 to join our teams in Chattanooga, Knoxville and Nashville, TN. In this position, you will have the opportunity to be mentored and trained by technical experts in the field of roadway transportation design.

Working within our Design & Engineering teams, you'll create some of the world’s most iconic and ground‑breaking structures and spaces that transform the world around us, from making journeys easier to opening public places that bring people together.

Role Accountabilities

As a Transportation Roadway Intern, you will prepare conceptual designs and construction plans through the utilization of Open Roads design software. You will also create engineering designs involving geometric design of highways and streets, drainage design (hydrology and hydraulics), and completing construction engineering and inspection tasks. Additionally, experience in the collection of traffic and highway field data and proficiency in using software platforms such as MicroStation, OpenRoads, and related design and office software are integral to the position as you assist with completion of transportation planning reports, roadway safety studies, and various traffic engineering projects.

  • Currently seeking Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or another closely related field

  • EIT Certification
  • Experience using OpenRoads
  • Basic understanding of the application of geometric and traffic operations principles including AASHTO, MUTCD, and state DOT requirements/policies
