Qualifications

  • Pursuing an accredited civil engineering degree in the US.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specs.
  • Knowledge of MicroStation or other design software is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in roadway engineering calculations and design drawings under supervision.
  • Support project management tasks such as budgets, schedules, and quality control.
  • Contribute to roadway design optimizations and quantity estimations.
  • Collaborate with Ferrovial team across disciplines on design and construction work.
  • Participate in field observation and data collection as needed.
  • Maintain timely submittals and support documentation accuracy.

Job Description:

Engineering Services (E.S.) is a department within Ferrovial Construction charged with providing full-service engineering and design services for our megaprojects in North America. E.S. manages the design of highways, railways, tunnels, transit infrastructures, and airports in the U.S. and Canada. With its North American operations headquartered in Austin, Texas, Ferrovial Construction has managed nearly $18 billion in design-build construction since 2006, representing some of the largest, most complex transportation infrastructure projects in the U.S. and Canada. Currently, Ferrovial Construction is managing five major highway construction projects in Georgia, Texas, and Virginia

Job Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Roadway Intern to join our team. The intern will assist in various roadway engineering projects, gaining hands-on experience in the field of civil engineering. This is an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates to apply their academic knowledge in a practical setting and develop their skills in roadway design, construction, and maintenance.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Under the direct supervision of a Roadway Manager, perform and/or review calculations by others and design drawings, according to codes and standards and additional contract criteria.
  • Assist in Project Management tasks such as budgets, schedules or quality control.
  • Contribute to developing roadway design optimizations.
  • Help to estimate bills of quantities (Including generation of quantities and performing Quality checks on quantities by sub-consultants).
  • Identify needs and evaluate alternative solutions, working in a multidisciplinary environment, actively communicating with the rest of the Ferrovial Team also involved in the design and construction work to identify needs and evaluate alternative solutions.
  • Support workload deadlines for on-time submittals.
  • Assist with field observation work if necessary.
  • Perform other duties as needed related to the scope of work described above.
  • Presential position based in Austin (TX)
Qualifications
  • Currently working towards BS, MS, or Advanced degree in Civil Engineering.
  • BS in Civil Engineering obtained from an accredited U.S. college or university.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in MicroStation is a plus.
  • Knowledge and practical experience with design software such as Geopack, InRoads, etc. is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and can work in a fast-paced environment; an eagerness to learn and apply your engineering skills to develop creative problem-solving designs/ideas.
