Job Description

Felsburg Holt & Ullevig (FHU) is seeking an experienced, self-motivated mid-level engineer with demonstrated success in project management and technical design. The candidate will utilize the latest computer-aided software, techniques, and skills to deliver multimodal transportation corridors, roadway, highway/interchange, and multi-use trail projects for state and municipal clients. The role also offers opportunities for involvement in business development, marketing, and office growth. This position involves project management and technical responsibilities, with potential for accelerated career growth for the right candidate.

The position will be located in Des Moines, IA or Omaha, NE.

Essential Duties include:

1. Working on a range of projects from conceptual design to larger corridor projects.
2. Overseeing data collection, technical analyses, and documentation.
3. Participating in and presenting project findings at meetings and public hearings.
4. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to evaluate alternatives, prepare technical findings, and estimate costs.
5. Assisting with or leading project management tasks, including scheduling, budgeting, invoicing, and client communication.
6. Using Civil3D and/or MicroStation/OpenRoads for transportation design and plan production.
7. Ensuring quality system tasks are completed as per FHU standards.
8. Mentoring junior team members and overseeing analytical work.
9. Participating in proposal preparation, client interviews, and business development activities.

Requirements

• Applying Federal, State, and Municipal design standards, including IowaDOT, SUDAS, and Nebraska DOT standards.
• Maintaining organized design journals for each project.
• Following FHU’s Total Quality Management procedures.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Transportation Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 5 years of transportation engineering experience in roadway design.
• Professional Engineer License or active pursuit in Iowa or Nebraska; licenses in South Dakota or Kansas are a plus.
• Experience with Civil3D and/or MicroStation/OpenRoads.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

The salary range is $85,000 - $105,000 annually, based on skills, qualifications, and experience.
