Overview

We are looking for a talented Civil Engineer to join our growing Roadway/Highway design team in the Kansas City region. The ideal candidate will be an EIT with experience on local agency and/or DOT roadway design projects.

Lochmueller Group is a regional engineering consulting firm focused on infrastructure. We provide multi‑disciplined services for public agencies and private entities, including transportation design, water resources design, environmental analysis & permitting, construction engineering & inspection, traffic engineering & transportation planning, surveying, and land acquisition & appraisal. Our Roadway/Highway Design team works on a wide variety of street, roadway, highway, and multimodal transportation design projects for local public agencies and state DOTs.

Responsibilities

• Prepare preliminary design plans, documents, and specifications under the guidance of senior engineers
• Conduct analyses and perform standard computations, drawings, and visual aids for projects
• Coordinate work with entry‑level engineers, technicians, or other staff
• Collaborate with the design team to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
• Conduct field inspections to gather relevant data and contribute to site assessments
• Utilize design software and tools for drafting and modeling
• Support the development of cost estimates for projects
• Perform quality control self‑checks of assigned work
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field from an ABET‑accredited program
• Passed FE/EI exam
• 5+ years of relevant roadway design engineering experience
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
• Strong understanding of design principles and standards
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work individually or as part of a team
