The Roadside Service Tech Flatbed is responsible for providing safe and best‑in‑class roadside solutions for AAA members while ensuring positive member experiences in a tow vehicle or flatbed vehicle. Flatbed Technicians are responsible for responding to member requests for service within a given ETA (estimated time of arrival). They ensure personal safety, member safety and vehicle security, educate members on possible issues, provide jump starts, replace flat tires, present vehicle entries and other related services. They provide minor mechanical assistance (if trained and equipped) in an attempt to get the member’s vehicle on the go instead of towing. If that is not successful, they tow disabled vehicles to repair facilities or other member‑requested destinations; promote AAA products and services; and ensure a complete resolution of member issues. Flatbed Technicians achieve club performance standards for go‑rates and membership satisfaction.

Compensation: The pay range for this position is $24.00–$27.00 / hour. Base pay offered may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, shift differentials and experience. Annual bonuses are offered to employees and certain roles are eligible to earn additional forms of compensation through monthly and/or quarterly incentives. Employees may also participate in award‑winning medical, dental, vision, wellness, financial (6% 401k match) and a wide array of other employee and membership benefits.

Shift differential: $2.75 per hour overnight shift (10 pm–6 am), $1.75 per hour evening shift (6 pm–10 pm), and $1 per hour weekend hours. Differentials can be combined.

Shift: Sun–Wed 10:00 am–8:30 pm

What You Will Do

• Accept calls and respond to Dispatch or members with ETA to destination. Locate members and greet them to provide reassurance and advice, and handle the technical aspects of the situation. Assess the safety of the scene on arrival so the vehicle is in a safe location to provide service, protecting the member and their traveling companions.
• Provide efficient minor mechanical assistance (if trained and equipped) and towing service. Ask probing questions to help diagnose probable causes of breakdowns. Make a preliminary determination of the best course of action. Seek assistance if unsure about a situation. Provide battery boost as appropriate and follow all safety procedures. If towing is required, safely tow vehicles following Club policies, procedures, and manufacturer specifications.
• Maintain AAA’s high standard of service and image. Keep the service vehicle and equipment in safe working order, conduct safety checks, and maintain an inventory of tools and products. Follow traffic and motor vehicle laws and safety procedures to avoid injury, crash, and damage. Maintain a professional image to positively represent the AAA brand. Follow up on temporarily repaired vehicles to ensure member safety or transport members to their destination if the vehicle is to be towed. Operate the vehicle’s computing system (MDC) to receive and update call information. Collect Club revenue accurately via cash or credit card based on services rendered. Safeguard confidential information and follow proper paperwork guidelines according to Club policies.
• Promote AAA products and services. Educate members on AAA battery replacement service and refer calls to the appropriate technician. Promote other AAA products and services. Work with Dispatch to get members to their intended destinations (e.g., hotel, airline reservations, rental car).
• Work independently with little face‑to‑face contact with other members of the service team. Be flexible and adapt to a variety of shifts to cover a 24/7 operation.
• Take special care to prevent damage and injury by locating ideal securing points and responding to changing vehicle dynamics during towing.
• Work under pressure, in busy circumstances, with varied traffic and weather conditions.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Education

Experience

• At least 21 years of age required.
• Post‑secondary training in automotive mechanics and familiarity with electrical troubleshooting required.

Licenses and Certifications

• Active and valid driver’s license issued by only one state or jurisdiction required.
• DOT card pre‑hire and current employee within 1 year required.
• Pass a motor vehicle record check during pre‑hire screening and periodically during employment in accordance with policy required.
