Job summary

The State of Indiana is hiring a Roads & Grounds Supervisor to oversee 240+ miles of roads and 34,000+ acres of grounds at Camp Atterbury. You’ll direct heavy equipment operators and mowing/snow removal, ensuring safety and efficiency under moderate supervision and driving performance on federal facilities.

A degree is not required. The role emphasizes planning, scheduling, training, and performance feedback, with a comprehensive benefits package and job stability.

• Broad knowledge of electrical systems, carpentry, plumbing and painting trades.
• Ability to plan, schedule and supervise job sites.
• Ability to fill in for other foreman to ensure the operation of the department.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints and other remediation plans and documents.
• Thorough knowledge of standard practices, processes, materials, procedures, and the ability to use tools and equipment of the various trades.
• Thorough knowledge of OSHA standards, MSDS and safety precautions for the trades.
• Ability to plan and estimate project proposals in terms of equipment, hours and costs.
• Ability to endure exposure to inclement weather.
• Ability to delegate work and manage workflow; provide feedback and development.
• Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License.

Role Overview:

You will perform duties under moderate supervision directing and managing all activities related to roads & grounds, land management, grounds maintenance, and equipment maintenance performed by heavy equipment operators and mowing/snow removal operations ensuring all activities are planned, coordinated, and completed in the safest and most efficient manner possible on the federally supported facilities of roads and grounds at Camp Atterbury. Responsible for maintaining 240+ miles of Roads and 34,000+ Acres of Grounds.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

What You'll Need for Success:

• Ability to endure exposure to inclement weather.
• Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
• Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
• Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.

This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care.
