Job summary

The Department of Motor Vehicles (South Carolina DMV) is hiring a License Examiner for the North Charleston area. You will administer road tests for classes A–M, process driver licenses and registrations, and assist customers with inquiries in a fast-paced public service environment.

Located in the Low Country, the role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and excellent customer service. Training is provided; applicants must be 21+ with SC driver’s license and pass a background check.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have a valid South Carolina driver’s license and be at least 21 years old with one year driving experience.
• Must complete a nationwide criminal background check including fingerprinting.

Responsibilities

• Administers road tests for multiple vehicle classes (A–M) to assess fitness and knowledge.
• Examines and issues driver licenses, permits, registrations, and related documents.
• Interacts with customers, answering questions and directing them within the office.
• Collects fees and maintains daily reconciliations and records.
• Performs routine maintenance on equipment and supports test operations outdoors and on the road.
