Job summary

American Structurepoint in Akron, OH is seeking an entry-level Staff Engineer to support roadway design projects for local agencies. You’ll assist with plan sets, quantity takeoffs, ORD workflows, and construction cost estimates under supervision.

You will gain hands-on experience on interstate and urban projects, with office work and occasional site visits. A bachelor’s in civil engineering and up to 4 years of related experience are expected; we are an equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist with design and layout of roadway alignments (horizontal and vertical).
• Involvement in geometry, drainage, signage, pavement markings, and maintenance of traffic.
• Help develop construction plan sets and bid-ready documentation.
• Perform quantity calculations to support bid plans and cost estimates.
• Explore areas like pavement analysis, design, and utility coordination.
• Take on various project support tasks from concept to construction.

American Structurepoint’s Road Engineering Group is seeking an entry-level Staff Engineer in Akron, OH! In this role you’ll work as part of a close-knit team on roadway projects for ODOT, cities, towns, and counties throughout Ohio. Most of your work will take place in the office, with occasional site visits, as you assist with quantity takeoffs, create construction plan sets using MicroStation OpenRoads Designer (ORD), prepare design documentation, and develop construction cost estimates. From large interstate and interchange projects to urban reconstructions, rural maintenance, and roundabouts, you’ll gain hands‑on experience across a wide variety of impactful transportation projects.

• Get involved in key aspects of roadway design, including geometry, drainage, signage, pavement markings, and maintenance of traffic
• Help develop construction plan sets, gaining experience in how projects are prepared for bidding and construction
• Perform quantity calculations to support bid plan development and construction cost estimates
• Explore additional areas like pavement analysis, design, and utility coordination for a well-rounded experience
• Take on a variety of project support tasks, learning how transportation engineering projects come to life from concept to construction
• Other duties as assigned
