Curry County in Clovis, NM is seeking an entry-level road maintenance worker to perform shredding of the county right-of-way and provide general maintenance to roads, signs, cattle guards and related infrastructure. The job is field-based, with exposure to weather, traffic, and a variety of hazards.
Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED (or five years of heavy road maintenance in lieu), read and write English, and be able to operate basic computer tasks and equipment.
Under the direct supervision of the Road Superintendent and Supervisor, this is an entry-level position involving shredding of County right-of-way as well as provide general maintenance to County roads, signs, cattle guards, and other areas as needed. Work is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions - hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow, exposure to sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, rough/rugged terrain, noxious plants and infected trash, exposure to hazardous chemicals, insects and reptiles, loud noises, confined spaces, stressful situations, subject to falls and bruises, considerable physical strain, high speed/high volume traffic, interaction with the public, local county, school and city officials by phone an in person, irregular hours day or night, subject to call out for emergencies, heavy lifting, sitting/standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling for extended periods of time may be required.
