Curry County, NM is seeking an employee for an entry-level field position under the supervision of the Road Superintendent. The role involves shredding county right-of-way and performing general road maintenance, signs, and related tasks.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED certificate required; A minimum of five (5) years of heavy road maintenance experience will be accepted in lieu of.
  • Must be able to read, write and follow written and oral instructions in English.
  • Must be able to write operations reports, and input information in computer program.
  • Valid NM Driver's License.
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment drug screen, pre-employment screening and background check.
  • Ability to be available nights and weekends for inclement weather, road hazards, accidents, and any other emergency that the Superintendent sees necessary.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Road Superintendent and Supervisor, this is an entry-level position involving shredding of County right-of-way as well as provide general maintenance to County roads, signs, cattle guards, and other areas as needed. Work is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions - hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow, exposure to sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, rough/rugged terrain, noxious plants and infected trash, exposure to hazardous chemicals, insects and reptiles, loud noises, confined spaces, stressful situations, subject to falls and bruises, considerable physical strain, high speed/high volume traffic, interaction with the public, local county, school and city officials by phone an in person, irregular hours day or night, subject to call out for emergencies, heavy lifting, sitting/standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling for extended periods of time may be required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED certificate required; A minimum of five (5) years of heavy road maintenance experience will be accepted in lieu of.
  • Previous experience in equipment operation and road maintenance strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write and follow written and oral instructions in English.
  • Must be able to write operations reports, and input information in computer program.
  • Basic computer knowledge for data entry.
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment drug screen, pre-employment screening and background check.
  • Valid NM Driver's License.
  • Ability to perform all essential duties as listed below.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties in the working conditions described below.
  • Ability to work with the equipment, tools and materials listed below.
  • Ability to be available nights and weekends for inclement weather, road hazards, accidents, and any other emergency that the Superintendent sees necessary.
  • Must comply with safety guidelines and policies of the County.
