Job summary

Chaves County is seeking a semi-skilled operator to safely and efficiently operate a range of light road construction equipment. The role involves routine maintenance, report writing, and assisting in the repair and construction of county roads.

The position requires working with minimal supervision, possible irregular hours, and compliance with county policies. A New Mexico Class A CDL with tanker endorsement is required within six months.

Qualifications

  • Education/Training/Experience: High school diploma or GED; 2 years’ experience operating light duty equipment.
  • Experience Substitution: Graduation from a vocational college in equipment operation may be substituted for two years of experience.
  • Licenses/Certification: New Mexico Class A CDL with tanker endorsement must be obtained within six months of employment.
  • Desirable Qualifications: Verifiable road work experience and CDL driver experience.
  • Other: Post offer Drug Analysis Test and/or pre-employment physical; Driver’s license and background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a variety of equipment including front-end loader, dump truck, water truck and more.
  • Perform routine servicing and preventative maintenance of assigned equipment.
  • Prepare and submit required reports by supervisory personnel.
  • Repair, construct, and maintain county roads and ditches as directed.
