Job summary

Navajo County in Arizona is seeking a skilled road maintenance worker to perform a range of construction and repair tasks under close supervision.

You will operate light to heavy equipment, perform preventive maintenance, install drainage, and support flagging, traffic control, and emergency response as needed. The role emphasizes safety, reliability, and collaboration with county crews.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One year experience operating light to heavy highway construction equipment.
  • One year highway construction/maintenance experience.
  • Class B CDL within 90 days of hire.
  • Traffic flagger certification within first 9 months.
  • Maintain a good driving record.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Operate construction/maintenance equipment for road care and construction.
  • Maintain roads and perform routine repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Flag traffic and place signs for safety around work zones.
  • Repair culverts, fences, guard rails, and maintain rights of way.
  • Apply asphalt, patch potholes, seal coats, and repair crack seal.
  • Assist with wildland fires and create fire barriers as needed.
  • Explain project work and impacts to residents and travelers.
  • Prepare reports and maintain records.
  • Install drainage culverts and follow county procedures.
