Job summary

Pueblo County seeks a senior supervisor for the Road and Bridge Department to oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring maintenance of gravel and asphalt roads, drainage, mowing, and tree trimming. The role includes directing in-house and outsourced projects and managing emergency response planning.

Responsibilities include scheduling, staff oversight, training, and ensuring compliance with specifications. A CDL, MSHA and safety certifications are required, with remote/hybrid options available for

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Project Management, Business Management, or related field required (from the posting).
• Minimum of five (5) years heavy equipment operating experience in road maintenance/construction.
• Minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory role.
• Class A Commercial Colorado Driver’s License with tanker and air brake endorsements required on hire.
• CPR and First Aid Certification required on hire.
• MSHA Certification required on hire; Flagger certification required on hire.

Job description

Ensures compliant day-to-day operations of the Road and Bridge Department; oversees every aspect of road and bridge maintenance in Pueblo County, including but not limited to: gravel and asphalt roads, mowing, roadside cleanup, drainage control, and tree trimming; oversees small and large construction projects both in-house and outsourced.

• Exercises direct, first-level supervision of positions, employees, operations, and activities. Includes coordinating staff training, assigning and reviewing work, participating in the interview and selection process, making recommendations impacting pay, status, and disciplinary action, evaluating performance independently or in conjunction with a higher-level supervisor/manager, and approving time off and approving staff timesheets.
• Oversees, assigns, and inspects projects, including scheduling work, implementing proper work site traffic control, monitoring project performance, and ensuring repair, maintenance, and construction work is completed in accordance with specifications.
• Plans, evaluates, and adjusts activities and schedules for Road and Bridge.
• Supervises crews and assigns daily projects, including special projects such as building new bridges, paving roads, and culvert installations.
• Coordinates equipment repair and resource acquisition in-house and with vendors.
• Makes emergency plans and initiates employee call back as required.
• Develops project schedules; independently travels to job sites.
• Required on-call rotation; must carry and answer the emergency pager and after-hours phone.
• Calculates quantities of materials required; monitors and accounts for materials usage.
• Performs additional tasks as assigned, including filling in for other staff as necessary and/or required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSE and/or CERTIFICATION:

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in the field of Construction Project Management, Business Management, or related field required.
• Minimum of five (5) years or more heavy equipment operating experience in the road maintenance/road construction industry required.
• Minimum of two (2) years or more in a supervisory role required.
• Class A Commercial Colorado Driver’s License with tanker and air brake endorsements required upon hire.
• Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Certification required upon hire.
• Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Certification required upon hire.
• Certified Flagger required upon hire.

• Must successfully pass a background check.
• Must successfully pass a CDL DOT physical, including drug screening.
