Job summary

Manchester Memorial Hospital, a Hartford HealthCare affiliated facility, seeks an experienced WOCN nurse to lead wound, ostomy and continence care across the organization. You will assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care while building staff education and leadership in this specialty.

Requirements include CT RN license, BSN (MSN preferred), WOCN certification, and 2–3 years of progressive clinical practice in the medical/surgical area. BCLS is required by hire date.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current RN license in the State of Connecticut (CT).
• Certification in Wound, Ostomy and Continence Care/Enterostomal Therapy Nursing is required.
• Completion of conservative sharp wound debridement coursework and 10 hours of supervision by a surgeon preferred.
• BSN in nursing is required; MSN in nursing is preferred.
• Must have BCLS certification upon hire or within orientation period and maintain competency.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical expertise, education, consultation, leadership and research related to wounds, ostomy, continence for patients and staff.
• Allocate resources to promote efficient and compassionate wound/skin/ostomy/incontinence care.
• Act as a resource to patients, staff, physicians and management; promote professional practice and effective communication.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides clinical expertise, education, consultation, leadership, and research to the organization in relation to patients and staff with wound, skin, ostomy, and continence needs. Serves as a resource to patients, staff, physicians, and management. Allocates available resources to promote efficient, effective, and compassionate care related to wound, skin, ostomy, and continence throughout the organization. Facilitates the development of collegial relationships. Visible, accessible, and committed to communicating effectively with staff. Promotes the profession of nursing and professional practice. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care of wounds, fistulae, pressure ulcers, skin breakdown, ostomy care and incontinence.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

• Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and hold and maintain a current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut.
• Certification in Wound, Ostomy and Continence Care/Enterostomal Therapy Nursing is required.
• Completion of accredited coursework in conservative sharp wound debridement and successful completion of 10 hours of supervision by a surgeon preferred.
• BSN in nursing required. MSN in Nursing preferred.
• Must have certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support upon hire or receive certification within the new employee introductory orientation period and maintain clinical competency during employment within this role.

EXPERIENCE:

• Must have two (2) to three (3) years or more of progressive experience in clinical practice in the medical/surgical area.

COMPETENCIES:

• Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Possess basic computer skills.
